The peer-reviewed article I analyzed was â€Å"Conducting a Functional-Based Intervention I a School Setting to Reduce Inappropriate Behaviour of a Child with Autism†. The focus of this article is â€Å"to assess the utility and feasibility of using three functional behavior assessment procedures in conjunction with the Behaviour Capture program when identifying the function of problem behavior in a school and to inform development of a function based intervention.† (Camacho, Anderson, Moore, Furlonger, 2014). Collection of data for FBAs in schools is essential but is also a challenge. â€Å"Most teachers regard the kind of data collection procedures that we shall discuss in this chapter with the same enthusiasm they reserve for statistics.† (Alberto†¦show more content†¦After reviewing the data, it was shown that the other student would either positively or negatively give attention to the subject when he directed his behavior towards her. It was also discovered that the other student would sometimes initiate these events. It was determined that the student would engage in stereotypy when he was under stimulated. It was noted that most of the student’s non-engagement was on the playground. He would stand next to a tricycle and just touch it. After looking at it and analyzing the data collected, a FBA was designed for this student. The student was taught how to ride the tricycle. This resulted in a decrease in the behaviors directed toward the other student, as well as a decrease in the amount of time he spent on his non-engagement behaviors and stereotypy. â€Å"The information obtained through the FA was used to design a naturalistic intervention, which was successful in teaching or facilitating a new play skill† (Camacho, Anderson, Moore, Furlonger, 2014). I think the most useful thing was that the teacher was able to use a remote control and video the student in the classroom. The observations were during the re gular setting of the classroom and playground. The videos were reviewed and analyzed to determine how to design a FBA.
